该炮是苏联40年代末期自行研制、50年代初装备使用的老式航空机炮，对应英文代号为NR-23，早已停产，但仍在老式苏制战斗机和战略轰炸机如米格-17/19，伊尔-28轰炸机，图-16轰炸机等作战飞机上服役。
