黄白色粉末。密度5.35g/cm3。不溶于水，溶于稀酸。

在许多矿物，如独居石、硅铍钇矿、钇铝石榴石都含有氧化钇。

纯净的氧化钇由含矿石制成硝酸钇，再由硝酸钇灼烧而得。

曾用作白热灯罩。现主要用作制特种玻璃和陶瓷。在石油炼制中用作催化剂等。
